Sepilok Orangutan & Sun Bear Sanctuary Tour
Begin your adventure by meeting your guide at your hotel in Sandakan or upon your arrival at Sandakan Airport. Your journey takes you to the renowned Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre, the largest sanctuary of its kind in the world. Here, you will witness the extraordinary efforts to rehabilitate orphaned and injured orangutans, preparing them for a return to the wild. From a specially designed platform nestled within the lush forest, observe the feeding of these magnificent creatures and gain insight into their lives through a 25-minute documentary that showcases their rehabilitation journey.
Next, you will visit the Borneon Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSCC), where dedicated staff work tirelessly to care for and rehabilitate orphaned sun bears. This visit not only highlights the importance of conservation but also aims to raise awareness about the Malayan sun bear, the smallest bear species in the world, found exclusively in Southeast Asia.
After a fulfilling morning, enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, where you can savor the flavors of the region. Following your meal, embark on a captivating city tour of Sandakan. Discover the vibrant Central Market, the unique Sim-Sim Water Village, and the Puh Jih Syh Buddhist Temple, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of Sandakan Bay from its hilltop location at Tanah Merah.
As your enriching day comes to a close, you will return to your hotel in Sandakan or be transferred to Sandakan Airport for your evening flight back to Kota Kinabalu.

- Ensure clients arrive at Sandakan Airport early enough to catch the recommended flights from Kota Kinabalu, as the schedule may change.
- Inform clients that there are camera and video fees at the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, which must be paid on-site.
- Advise clients to wear good walking shoes and bring a raincoat or disposable poncho, as weather conditions can change rapidly in the rainforest.
- Remind clients to apply insect repellent and sunblock, as they will be spending time outdoors in a tropical environment.
- Encourage clients to bring long pants and a sun hat for comfort during the tour, especially while visiting outdoor sites.
- Clients should be prepared for some walking during the city tour, particularly at the Puh Jih Syh Buddhist Temple, which is located on a hilltop.
