Traditional Vietnamese Cooking Class at Red Bridge

We begin our culinary journey at Hai Scout Café, located in the heart of Hoi An Ancient Town, where we gather for a refreshing drink. This charming café serves as our meeting point, setting the stage for an exciting afternoon ahead. Our first stop is the vibrant Hoi An market, a sensory delight filled with colorful stalls and the enticing aromas of local produce. Here, you will have the chance to interact with friendly vendors and select fresh ingredients that will be used in our cooking lesson.

Next, we board the Red Bridge boat for a leisurely 25-minute cruise along the serene Hoi An River. This scenic journey offers a glimpse into the daily lives of the locals along the riverbanks, so be sure to have your camera ready to capture the picturesque views.

Upon arrival at the Red Bridge Cooking School, we will explore the lush herb and vegetable garden, which serves as the foundation for our culinary creations. The cooking lesson lasts approximately two hours, during which the talented chefs will demonstrate how to prepare some of Hoi An's most beloved dishes. You will then have the opportunity to replicate these dishes yourself, gaining hands-on experience in traditional Vietnamese cooking techniques. The class also includes a brief introduction to the art of Vietnamese food carving, adding an artistic touch to your culinary skills.

After the lesson, we will sit down to enjoy the fruits of our labor, savoring the delicious dishes we have prepared together. The menu features an array of delightful recipes, including fresh rice paper, shrimp rolls, crispy Hoi An pancakes, seafood salad served in a pineapple, and Mi Quang chicken noodles. As a special touch, we will also create decorative food garnishes, such as a tomato rose and a cucumber hand fan. A vegetarian lunch can be arranged upon request, ensuring that everyone can partake in this culinary adventure.

Our experience concludes around 7:00 PM, after which we will transfer back to central Hoi An, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Vietnamese cuisine and culture.

Destination Information

Hoi An

Hoi An is a compact town set along the gentle curves of the Thu Bon River in Vietnam’s central coastal region, where narrow streets and low-rise buildings create an intimate urban fabric shaped by centuries of trade and cultural exchange. Its architecture reflects a blend of local and foreign influences, with wooden shop houses and tiled roofs lining quiet lanes that invite slow exploration. The town’s scale and layout encourage a pedestrian pace, fostering a close connection between everyday life and the preserved historic environment. Traditional crafts remain part of daily activity, visible in workshops where artisans shape lanterns that light the streets after dusk, adding a warm, tangible element to the town’s atmosphere. The Japanese Covered Bridge, a distinctive structure linking parts of the old quarter, exemplifies the layering of cultural influences and the integration of functional design with aesthetic detail. Beyond the built environment, the nearby river and coastal landscape contribute to Hoi An’s character, grounding it in a region known for its fertile plains and maritime heritage. This combination of architectural heritage, artisanal practice, and natural setting defines Hoi An’s appeal as a place where history and local life coexist closely.
