Kampung Dedari - A Day with Orang Asli Guided Tour
After a delightful breakfast, your journey begins at Mutiara Jetty, where you will meet your knowledgeable guide. Together, you will embark on a scenic boat ride to Kampung Dedari, a vibrant village inhabited by the Orang Asli of the Batek tribe, one of the six subgroups of the Semang. This tribe has a rich history, believed to have descended from ancestors who migrated from Africa approximately 80,000 to 70,000 years ago, establishing their presence in Peninsular Malaysia for at least 25,000 years. Their descendants can even be traced as far as Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by the Orang Asli community. With the assistance of your nature guide, who will act as a translator, you will witness firsthand the traditional methods used by the tribe to gather raw foods. They will demonstrate the fascinating process of digging two meters into the earth to unearth wild tapioca, alongside sharing their extensive knowledge of medicinal plants and roots that thrive in their natural surroundings. As noon approaches, you will have the opportunity to share a meal with them, fostering a deeper connection to their way of life.
In the afternoon, immerse yourself further into the daily routines of the Orang Asli. They will showcase their traditional skills, including how to start a fire using age-old techniques, craft darts for their blowpipes, and demonstrate the art of using the blowpipe itself. Before concluding your visit, you will sip on traditional roots tea, enjoying the flavors and stories shared by the tribe. As your day comes to an end, take a moment to capture memories with photographs and heartfelt goodbyes before returning to your hotel by boat.
