Fish and Rice Discovery

Your adventure begins as Jack Tran’s guide meets you at your hotel, ready to embark on a journey to the biking point. From there, you will cycle to a charming local farming village, traversing picturesque country roads for approximately 45 minutes, covering a distance of 5 to 6 kilometers. As you pedal along, you will have the opportunity to share in the daily work life of local farmers, engaging in activities such as hoeing, watering vegetables in an organic herb garden, and even riding water buffalo in the fields. This immersive experience allows you to appreciate the freshest air and the breathtaking beauty of the countryside.

Upon reaching the river, you will board Jack Tran’s boat, where a delightful spread of fruit and cake awaits you, accompanied by a cup of tea or coffee. As you cruise towards the mouth of the river where it meets the Cua Dai Sea, the serene surroundings will envelop you. You will then have the chance to join local fishermen on the river, gaining hands-on experience with traditional round net and cast net fishing techniques.

The experience continues with cultural folk music of Bả Trạo performed by local fishermen, enriching your understanding of the region’s traditions. You will also learn to paddle the unique Vietnamese bamboo basket boats, engaging in a lively basket boat dance showcased by Jack Tran’s crew. As you glide through the tranquil coconut-palm flanked waterways, you will hear stories of the extreme conditions endured by soldiers during the past war, providing a poignant context to the beauty surrounding you.

As a creative highlight, you will learn to craft origami creations from palm leaves, making delightful items such as grasshoppers, birds, rings, sunglasses, and bracelets. After a day filled with exploration and learning, you will return to Jack Tran’s boat for a satisfying lunch, accompanied by cold beer or soft drinks. Finally, you will be transported back to your hotel in Jack Tran’s mini-van, concluding a memorable day of discovery.

Destination Information

Hoi An

Hoi An is a compact town set along the gentle curves of the Thu Bon River in Vietnam’s central coastal region, where narrow streets and low-rise buildings create an intimate urban fabric shaped by centuries of trade and cultural exchange. Its architecture reflects a blend of local and foreign influences, with wooden shop houses and tiled roofs lining quiet lanes that invite slow exploration. The town’s scale and layout encourage a pedestrian pace, fostering a close connection between everyday life and the preserved historic environment. Traditional crafts remain part of daily activity, visible in workshops where artisans shape lanterns that light the streets after dusk, adding a warm, tangible element to the town’s atmosphere. The Japanese Covered Bridge, a distinctive structure linking parts of the old quarter, exemplifies the layering of cultural influences and the integration of functional design with aesthetic detail. Beyond the built environment, the nearby river and coastal landscape contribute to Hoi An’s character, grounding it in a region known for its fertile plains and maritime heritage. This combination of architectural heritage, artisanal practice, and natural setting defines Hoi An’s appeal as a place where history and local life coexist closely.
