Cuc Phuong National Park: Wildlife, Conservation and Jungle Trek
Embark on a captivating journey from Hanoi as you travel southeast to Cuc Phuong National Park. Established in 1962, this remarkable park is celebrated as one of Vietnam's most stunning and significant nature reserves. Within its lush landscapes, you will discover a vibrant array of tropical birds, many of which are endemic to Vietnam and the Indochina region. As you explore, keep your eyes peeled for some of the 307 species of rare birds, including the striking Silver-pheasant, the Red-collared Woodpecker, the Brown Hornbill, and the enchanting Bar-bellied Pita.
In addition to its avian wonders, Cuc Phuong is a sanctuary for a diverse range of amphibians, insects, and reptiles, many of which are unique to the park and Vietnam. Encounter fascinating species such as the Viper, the vibrant green tree frog, and the intriguing stick-insects. The ancient forest is also home to nearly 2,000 species of trees, creating a rich tapestry of life.
Your adventure begins with a visit to the Endangered Primate Rescue Center, where dedicated conservation efforts are underway to save rare primates from the threat of poaching. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn about the various primate species being rehabilitated and prepared for reintroduction into their natural habitats, under the guidance of both Vietnamese and German biologists.
Following your enlightening visit, you will drive 20 kilometers to the starting point of a scenic round trekking trail that meanders 7 kilometers through the heart of the jungle. Along this enchanting trek, you will also visit a prehistoric cave, where remnants of human skeletons and stone tools dating back as far as 7,500 years have been discovered, offering a glimpse into the ancient history of the area.
