Excursion Highlights

Can Cau Market & Chay River Discovery

Upon your arrival at Lao Cai station, you will be warmly welcomed by your local guide and driver, who will assist you in transferring to a nearby restaurant for breakfast, should you choose to indulge. Following this delightful start, we embark on our journey to the enchanting Can Cau market. The drive is relatively flat from Lao Cai to the Bao Nhai bridge, but as we cross the bridge, the road begins to ascend, revealing stunning panoramic views of the lush valleys below.

Located just 20 kilometers from Bac Ha, Can Cau is a charming yet vibrant market that opens exclusively on Saturdays. This unique market is a feast for the eyes, showcasing a colorful array of traditional costumes worn by the Flower Hmong, Black Zao, and Phu La ethnic groups. Spend the morning wandering through the market, capturing the essence of local life and the vibrant atmosphere that makes this experience truly unforgettable.

After a morning filled with exploration, we will depart the market and head to Bac Ha town for a delightful lunch. In the afternoon, we continue our adventure with a scenic drive downhill towards Lao Cai, which takes approximately half an hour. Along the way, we will pause to take a short walk to Trung Do village, home to the Tay people. These picturesque villages are typically nestled at the foot of a mountain or along a stream, each named after a nearby natural feature.

As we stroll through the village, you will notice that each community consists of around 15-20 households, often divided into smaller hamlets. The traditional houses, built on stilts or at ground level, reflect the unique architectural style of the Tay people. We will stop by a traditional Tay house to enjoy a warm cup of tea, immersing ourselves in the local culture before we embark on a serene boat cruise upstream along the Chay River. The scenery along the river is breathtaking, with lush landscapes framing the tranquil waters. Our boat trip will conclude at Coc Ly, where your vehicle will be ready to take you back to Lao Cai, marking the end of this enriching tour.

Destination Information

Sapa

Sapa occupies a distinctive place in northern Vietnam’s mountainous landscape, where steep slopes and deep valleys shape both the environment and local life. The town is surrounded by rugged peaks and extensive terraced rice fields that contour the hillsides, reflecting centuries of agricultural adaptation. These terraces create a patchwork of green and gold that changes with the seasons, offering a tangible connection to the region’s rural traditions. The presence of diverse ethnic minority communities adds a layer of cultural richness, visible in the traditional dress, markets, and village settlements scattered throughout the area. Daily activity in Sapa’s central market reveals a blend of local commerce and social interaction, where fresh produce, handicrafts, and textiles are exchanged. Nearby, Hoang Lien Son National Park provides a natural backdrop of dense forests and biodiversity, while Fansipan Mountain rises prominently as the highest peak in Indochina, drawing attention for its challenging terrain and panoramic views. Together, these elements create a setting where natural beauty, cultural heritage, and everyday life intersect in a way that distinguishes Sapa from other parts of the country.
