Day 1 – Lao Cai to Bac Ha
After a delightful breakfast, your cycling adventure begins as you set off along flat roads toward Bac Ngam. Pedal through the serene countryside of the Red River valley, where local villages and terraced rice fields create a picturesque backdrop. By noon, you will arrive in Bac Ngam, where a picnic lunch awaits to refuel your energy. The afternoon presents a long and occasionally steep ascent to your final destination for the day: Bac Ha. Should you feel fatigued from the ride, a jeep will be at your service to provide a lift to Bac Ha. Upon arrival, you will check into a cozy homestay of the Tay People, where you will spend the next two nights. A refreshing cold drink, a soothing shower, and a delicious dinner will cap off this memorable day.
Day 2 – Bac Ha to Can Cau and Back
Today, prepare for an extraordinary market experience at the Can Cau market. The journey from Bac Ha to Can Cau is hilly yet rewarding, offering dramatic views that will leave you in awe. After approximately 1.5 hours of cycling, you will reach the market, a vibrant hub filled with fascinating items for sale. The market is frequented by a diverse array of ethnic groups, making it an unforgettable experience as you immerse yourself in its lively atmosphere. Spend the morning wandering through the market, soaking in the magnificent chaos. A picnic lunch will be provided. In the afternoon, you will return to Bac Ha, with the option to visit the nearby Ban Pho village, home to the Flower Hmong and Nung ethnic groups. Here, the villagers cultivate vegetables and plum fruit trees. You will have the opportunity to visit a local house and savor a cup of corn wine, a renowned product from this village. Enjoy another night in your welcoming homestay.
Day 3 – Bac Ha to Lao Cai
After enjoying a morning coffee, take a short walk to visit the old castle of the former Hmong King. From this vantage point, you can relish stunning panoramic views of the entire town. Next, immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of a large market, where colorful ethnic minority groups such as the Flower Hmong, Phu La, Black Dao, Tay, and Nung gather to buy and sell a variety of goods. After exploring the market, savor a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, begin your descent by cycling downhill from Bac Ha to Bao Nhai, where you will board a boat for a relaxing cruise along the Chay River. This serene journey is the perfect way to conclude your trip, allowing you to observe the vibrant life along the riverbanks. Your jeep will be waiting for you in Coc Ly to transfer you to the Lao Cai Railway Station for your train back to Hanoi. Alternatively, you may choose to return to Sapa for further adventures in the enchanting mountains of Vietnam.
