Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary
At the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, a dedicated conservation center managed by The Department of Wildlife and National Parks, visitors can witness the remarkable efforts being made to protect and rehabilitate elephants. The staff at the sanctuary are committed to locating, subduing, and translocating elephants from areas where their habitats have been compromised due to urban development. This vital work not only highlights the plight of these majestic creatures but also serves to educate the public on the critical importance of habitat preservation and environmental conservation.
Over the past 25 years, the sanctuary has played a pivotal role in the conservation of elephants, successfully relocating more than 300 wild elephants to safer environments. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to engage with the knowledgeable staff, who will share their insights and experiences regarding the challenges faced by elephants in the wild. This immersive experience is further complemented by a delightful local lunch, allowing you to savor the flavors of the region while surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the sanctuary.

Travel Notes
- Pick-up from the city hotel is scheduled between 8:45 AM and 9:00 AM. Ensure clients are ready on time to avoid delays.
- The tour departs daily between 9:30 AM and 9:45 AM, so clients should plan their morning accordingly.
- Comfortable shoes are recommended due to the walking involved at the sanctuary. A hat or cap is also advisable for sun protection.
- The tour lasts approximately 6 to 7 hours, including travel time and activities at the sanctuary.
- Clients should be aware that the tour is not available on specific dates: November 8-9, 2026; February 5-8, 2027; and March 10-11, 2027.
- As the sanctuary focuses on conservation, clients may be encouraged to engage in discussions about wildlife preservation and habitat protection during their visit.
- Lunch is included in the tour, providing an opportunity to experience local cuisine.
- Traffic conditions can vary, so it's advisable to allow extra time for the return journey to the city.
