Half Day Excursion to Angkor Thom

Embark on a captivating half-day sightseeing tour of the Angkor Temples, where you will relive the glory of the great Khmer Empire under the guidance of an expert tour guide. Your journey begins at the magnificent Angkor Thom, aptly named ‘The Great City’. This remarkable site houses the finest temples constructed during the reign of King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th and early 13th centuries.

Starting from the Southern Gate, you will be awestruck by the imposing 23-meter high stone sculptures depicting the faces of Avalokiteshvara, famously featured in the Tomb Raider movie. As you venture further into the heart of the citadel, you will arrive at the Temple of Bayon, a stunning architectural marvel built at the end of the 12th century. The temple's exterior is adorned with massive towers, each carved with serene faces that seem to watch over the landscape. Engraved into its walls are intricate bas reliefs that vividly illustrate the daily life and customs of the Khmer people.

Your exploration continues as you visit the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, both rich in history and grandeur. You will also discover the 12 identical towers of Prasat Suor Prat, each adding to the mystique of this ancient city. To conclude your half-day tour, you will visit some of the most renowned temples from the 11th century, including the Baphuon and Phimeanakas, with the possibility of exploring other smaller temples nearby if time allows. After this enriching experience, you will be transferred back to your hotel, carrying with you the memories of a truly remarkable journey.

Destination Information

Siem Reap

Siem Reap is a city where ancient history and everyday life coexist amid a landscape shaped by waterways and lush greenery. Its streets reveal a blend of traditional Khmer architecture and modest urban development, reflecting a community rooted in local customs while engaging with growing tourism. The city’s proximity to the vast Tonle Sap Lake influences both its economy and atmosphere, with floating villages and fishing activities visible beyond the urban edges. Central to Siem Reap’s identity is the nearby Angkor Archaeological Park, where temple ruins rise from dense forest, offering insight into the grandeur of the Khmer Empire. This historical presence contrasts with the lively Old Market area, where vendors sell local crafts and produce, providing a glimpse into contemporary daily life. Beyond the city limits, Phnom Kulen National Park offers natural landscapes and spiritual sites, reinforcing the region’s connection to Cambodia’s cultural heritage. Together, these elements create a destination that balances the weight of its past with the rhythms of present-day community life.
